It is the middle of the night; sleep eludes me as I lay in my rented hospital bed. Through the open window drifts the most beautiful melodious music, enhancing the silent night. Next to our small farm the mighty Fraser River is rapidly rising, raising the water table in the neighboring field, which seems to have awakened thousands of frogs from their deep slumber. Their beautiful chorus serenades me as I lay healing in my bed, bringing back some of the most memorable sounds of my childhood years. All is well. It's already been several weeks since my total hip replacement surgery and the progressive healing is well on its way. The operation was very successful and my hospital stay at Vancouver General Hospital was brief. Thanks to modern technology, modern techniques, futuristic drug mixes, and good old fashioned nursing care, that brief stay was relatively pain-free and mentally positive. Hopefully this will continue its course over the next few months and by summer's end I will be able to attend functions pain-free once again. Let the healing continue! Thanks so much to all my friends and family for those "Get Well" e-mails, texts, phone calls and visits which made the time fly by, and especially to Karen for her special care, attention, and time during this healing process, that just happened to occur during the frenzy of paper deadlines. Thank you everyone! Hip! Hip! Hooray!! It's over!
